SATA2 RAID (Serial ATA RAID) systems are the future of cost effective disk array technology. These SATA2 RAID solutions provide many benefits over previous SCSI, Parallel ATA and even original SATA RAID systems.

Cost for performance is the main benefit of a SATA2 RAID solution. SATA 2 drives are less expensive then their SCSI or fibre channel counterparts and now have become cost effective versus SATA1 drives. SATA2 RAID drives have a low price and add increased performance over the previous SATA hard drives.

Performance of a SATA2 RAID solution is excellent. Technology advancements provide a substantial performance increase in a SATA2 RAID. Using the new, state of the art SATA2 hard drives in a RAID system provides SCSI or fibre channel like benefits at a lower cost.

SATA2 RAID uses a point-to-point connection for each drive that is connected, as with SATA 1. In a SATA2 RAID, this direct connection to each SATA2 hard drive eliminates the bottleneck of a shared bus and provides significantly more throughput then Parallel ATA systems.

Smaller cables and connectors used in SATA2 RAID subsystems allow for better cooling. With this improved air flow, SATA2 RAID hard drives can be closer together without risk of overheating.

Another feature of SATA2 RAID technology allows for longer cable lengths, this means cables can be routed better for even more cooling. Also, an additional SATA2 RAID benefit is more hard drives will fit in a single chassis.
