Xserve RAID Solutions

Apple Macintosh Xserve servers use Mac OS X and work well with certain RAID storage systems. Xserve RAID storage solutions have either copper or optical fibre channel interfaces as compared with the standard SCSI interfaces of previous Mac models.

To useXserve fibre channel RAID solutions, a corresponding fibre channel Host Bus Adapter (HBA) to be installed for the Xserve RAID solution that is purchased. Copper based fibre channel was first used for Xserve RAID connectivity. Then, fibre optic connections to Xserve RAID solution products were adopted.

Because of the high performance of the Apple Xserve, RAID systems can now operate at much faster speeds then before. Xserve RAID solutions can take advantage of the high throughput levels of the Xserve and provide extreme levels of throughput. Current Xserve RAID options produce significant amounts of throughput, the type of through put needed for high end video and audio applications.
